WHAT IS ASCII | ASCII TABLE | PURPOSE OF ASCII – ASCII stands for the “American Standard Code for Information Interchange“.
(ASCII) ‘The word can be simply translated into English as a sign language certified by the United States for the exchange of information.
Currently, the same sign language is used all over the world.
PURPOSE OF ASCII
Programs and data are supplied to the computer mostly through letters and numbers. But the numbers in the decimal system and the letters in the Roman alphabet are not understood by the computer.
The language understood by the computer is ‘Machine Language’! And the binary number is the foundation of that language.
Of course, the information we provide to the computer through the keyboard has to be converted to binary mode.
In fact, it is impossible to convert many letters of the English alphabet and full punctuation, exclamation marks, question marks, etc. into binary numbers. Because those are not numbers.
The solution is to assume numbers for these alphabets and symbols. This is where symbolism comes into play.
Computer manufacturers took advantage of the fact that no rules could be set for the numbers A, B, C, etc. to determine the English alphabet.
Each manufacturer began to develop its own sign language. So there is no matching between the computers of different companies. So started to confuse the users while handling different computers.
Understandably, if each nation decides independently what the length of the meter should be, there will be a single confusion around the world. That’s what computer sign language is all about.
To find a way out of this predicament, the American National Standards Institute has decided on a single committee language for all types of computers.
In ASCII, the value of one in the binary system is assumed to be 0110001. This value comes with the number 40 in the decimal system. The two have an ASCII price.
0110010 is 41 thus all nine digits are given double values. Also, for the letter ‘A’, 10000001 means decimal 65, for the letter ‘B’, 1000010 means 66, all the 26 letters have been valued in order.
Binary numbers are also fixed for various symbols in English lowercase letters.

EXAMPLE OF ASCII
Combining the numbers on the left and at the top of this table gives the sign language binary number.
- ‘9’ means 1001011
- ‘J’ means 1010100
- The ‘Equal to’ sign is 1101011
The table above is not perfect. Recently, many other symbols and words have been added to the ASCII code using 256 symbolic binary numbers.
